Links have been a hot topic for discussion amongst webmasters for a very long time and there have been many ups and downs to the link trade over time. It got so crazy with requests for link exchanges that at one point I gave up and refused to exchange links with anyone for any of my sites.
To a certain extent it worked because I was able to focus on other important factors like building quality websites and developing high grade website content for my network of existing sites. Over time I came to realize that no matter how good your content was you have to actively pursue quality links to that content if it is ever going to be recognized by search engines and you are goign to ever receive any traffic to those pages.
Custom link building is just as important to webmasters now as it was way back in 97 when things got started although the approach has certainly changed for us white hat seo agents who appreciate long term search results and traffic building. Just getting any site to link back is no longer the objective if you want quality search engine rankings and it is now more important than ever to secure high ranking inbound links from authority sites in your respective niche and you have to maintain those link relationships with content exchanges and other promotion techniques so that you send back as much as you receive from your link partners.
Personlized contact and targeted link swaps are more the norm as webmasters develop long term link partnerships with other established site networks in more unique ways. Gone are the standard two way link exchanges and now we have 3way and even 4 way link swaps where one of my other sites will link to one of your other sites in exchange for a one way link from a desired site. Multiple link swaps and targeted anchor text help craft better keyword traffic and secure the most relevant traffic for each niche.
I have been using an older SEO program from Arelis for link building because it has a robust search feature for targeting related websites and i am so far happy with the results although i do not use the tool as it was originally designed to swap two way links. I only use it to find websites where I might want to link and then I go about contacting them indiviidually and often by telephone to discuss a proper link partnership with each targeted website. This ads up to lots of time spent sending out personalized emails and making phone calls with my Google Voice account but it’s all worth it when you sink a nice link back to your site from a major player in your niche.
What tips do you have or what methods are you using to secure new links for new sites these days?
